Is Your Team Using Copilot? Tracking AI ROI

Look beyond purchased licenses when reviewing Copilot adoption. Consider usage, employee workflows and evidence of business value.

Your Team Rolled Out Copilot. Here's How to Know If They're Using It.

You've rolled out Microsoft Copilot, talked up the time savings, and explained the productivity boost. The harder part is knowing whether your team is actually using it, or whether the licenses are quietly gathering dust.

For business owners in Northeast Ohio, this is a critical question of ROI (Return on Investment). Thankfully, Microsoft has released a new tool to give you the answer. It is called the Copilot Dashboard (featuring “Benchmarks”), and it lives inside Viva Insights.

Stop Guessing, Start Measuring

The Copilot Dashboard gives you a clear, data-driven picture of your AI adoption. Specifically, it shows you:

  • Active Users: How many people actually use Copilot daily?
  • Top Apps: Are they using it in Word to write reports? Or in Teams to summarize meetings?
  • Retention: Do users try it once and quit? Or do they come back every day?

In short, it tells you if your investment is paying off.

The “Peer Pressure” Feature (Benchmarks)

But it doesn’t stop at your own data. Microsoft added a powerful “Benchmarks” feature.

It compares your company’s usage against other similar businesses. For instance, you can see how you stack up against companies of the same size, in the same industry, or even in the same region.

This allows you to answer the big question: Is my team leading the AI charge, or are we falling behind the competition?

(Note on Privacy): This might sound like a privacy concern. Benchmarks compare your usage against aggregated, anonymized data from other organizations, so you see trends rather than another company's numbers. Review Microsoft's current privacy terms for the dashboard before you turn it on, since they can change.

It’s About Support, Not Spying

This new visibility might make some employees uneasy. However, as a leader, you must frame this correctly. This is not about “spying” on habits. It is about identifying gaps in support.

For example, if the dashboard shows that your Sales team loves Copilot but your Marketing team never touches it, you know where the problem is. You don’t need to punish Marketing; you need to offer them better training.

When an AI rollout stalls, the cause is often how the team works, not the tool itself. This dashboard shows where your team is stalling, so you can fix it.

Get the ROI You Paid For

Soon, you won't have to guess whether your team is using AI well. Copilot will tell you.
